I had planned on just spinning indoors today. A quick 45 Minute spin on the trainer while watching a movie sounded like a good idea. I had just received a new copy of a documentary that I was planning on watching while I rode. The problem is that when I placed the blue ray in the player and queued up the tv, I looked at the bike an thought to myself that I need to get my miles in. Maybe it was the previous videos of military training that I had been watching. Maybe it was the previous conversation that I had with my family. What ever it was, sitting on the bike while spinning was no longer acceptable.
As a got my gear on, I thought about all the hills I would have to tackle. I thought about the hills around the school, the hill approaching the state road, the hill reaching up to the grocery store. I thought about the hill that leads back home. All of them for all their work, would leave a mental scar on my mind from the past pains that they had left in days past. Still once I snapped my heart monitor in to place, I was off and running. Nothing was going to stop me.
When I stepped out on the porch with the bike on my shoulder, the heat in the air was almost enough to deter me from the ride. It was hot and unpleasant. The cool , after the rainstorm, air that I was expecting was absent. Still I walked to the street, hopped on the bike and started to pedal. The spinning up the hill and trying to make it to the first turn was a chore. IT was not until I made it to the turn that the bike came alive and spun along the flat smooth roads.
By the time the ride ended, I didnt feel like I needed to stop. I was energized, and content. I felt like I could have ridden another twenty miles. The pain that I was expecting to be in my legs was absent. The burning in my lungs wasnt apparent. Had I more time, I would have taken another lap around the parks.
When I started I felt bad, but when I finished, I wanted to do it again. If the weather was cooler I would have ridden until the pain arrived.
