The **Portland Maine Coastline Cycling Adventure Ride** is an all-day affair exploring much of the Coastline in this small New England Port City.  As an Advanced Intermediate ride of 45 Miles , you can expect to spend 5 – 10 hours on a ride like this.  You will be stopping so often, it is hardly like a bike ride.

**About this Ride:**  This ride keeps you on the coastline as much as possible.  There is a lot of coastline to be seen as well as a couple of the Famous Lighthouses you have heard about. There will be many stops, and you should bring your best camera. There are sporadic bike paths, coastline paths, and beach walk-ways. The road riding is gentle and smooth, not a lot of traffic as you would expect in a Seaport City.

**Ride Equipment:**  Road Bike, Cross-Bike, Hybrid Bike, all are fine. You should bring a lunch, but there are a few places to stop along the way. A towel or blanket is a good idea if you plan to take an extended stop at the beach, or shoreline.

**Riding the Route:** Starting on the Shore Line, in Downtown Portland, you will need to find your own parking location and a way to find the start of this ride.  There is only one way across the Bridge going to South Portland. Once over that bridge, you will be on the route.

Right away you are on a bike path, it travels through a couple of sea-side parks, and you will have your first chance to @poi[stop](2361806) and look back at @photo[Downtown Portland](1897242).  After a few miles on the bike path, you will approach Cushing Point Park, a small loop around this gets you across the docks to Spring Point.

At **Mile 7** you will approach @photo[Fort Williams Park](1897243) at @poi[Ship Cove](2361808).  This is an area you should expect to spend a lot of time at.  There is so much to see, you should get off your bike and take it all in. At this park, you will see the world famous @photo[Portland Head](1897198) Light House.

At **Mile 8**, I take you to a few backroads to view some sea-side neighborhoods.  **Mile 12** brings you to multiple sea-side parks. The first is @poi[Dyer Point](2361810), and the amazing jagged rocks out on the point. A must see.  Back from Dyer Point, you are now routed to the @poi[Two Lights State Park](2361811) for more looks at the coastline.  On the exit route is a stop at @poi[Kettle Cove](2361813) and Crescent Beach State Park.

At **Mile 23**, you are on a 6 Mile Lollipop out to an exclusive community on Prouts Neck. From here, you can get a great view of @poi[Old-Orchard Beach](2361815). Your exit off this neck takes you through the Nonesuch River Sanctuary.   Then you are on the backroads of South Portland for a while.

**Mile 35** gets you to a parkland and to the @poi[Bike Path](2361816). This route is a bit out of the way, but I am keeping you out of the industrial zone. **Mile 39** gets you across the Fore River and back to Downtown Portland.

From here, I route you through some city neighborhoods and over to the @poi[Black Cove](2361817) Bike Path at **Mile 43**, and a quick circular ride you are at the Eastern Point Bike path on your way back to your start point.
