The **Concord Minuteman Battle Road Trail Fun Ride** is a great way to spend the afternoon learning about American History.  This 20 mile ride is an easy effort for most folks, but I do consider this ride an Advance Beginner ride because of the distance. Half of this ride is on compressed dirt bike paths.

**About the Ride:** This ride takes you on 10 miles of the Minuteman Bike Path, and on all (7) miles of the Minuteman @photo[Battle Road Trail](1961775) located in Concord.

Starting in downtown Lexington, there is a large public parking area that abuts the Minuteman Rail Trail. The paved portion of the rail trail starts at Davis Square, Somerville, and continues for about 12 miles to Bedford. Your start in Lexington is about 3/4 of the way to Bedford.

At the ½ way point of this ride, you will be at the @photo[“Old North Bridge"](1961766) on the Concord River. This is the site of the first battle against the Brits for the occupation of America where many hundreds died on that day in 1775.  The subsequent 7 miles of trail show historical markers and follow-up battle areas. There are many places to stop both before the Battle Trail and while you are on it.

This ride of 20 miles can become a multi hour affair as there are many place to stop along the way.  Parents should think seriously for before inviting anyone under 10 to ride this for both distance and traffic issues. The Bike Path can be very crowded at times.

**Ride Equipment:**  Road Bike, Hybrid Bike, or Mountain Bikes are all suitable for this adventure. There are a lot of opportunities to stop for food and water along the way.  A good Camera is a good idea too.

**Riding the Route:**  Starting at the Public Parking Lot in Lexington, get on the Bike Path and head North. The path will have a few street crossings, but is generally a wide and fully paved path.

Near @point[**Mile 4**](d,6176.98) you will be at the top of the paved portion of the Minuteman Trail.  There is also a @photo[small store](1961763) and a bike shop at this location and this is a favorite place for cyclist to gather.

Stay on the road as you head past the bike shop.  The trailhead is about ¼ mile away.  Once on this portion of the ride, the path will be mostly flat @photo[groomed dirt](1961765) for the next 15 miles.

Along the way and near **Mile 6.5** is the @poi[Great Meadows](2381173) of Concord. While there are direct access paths to the river banks, bicycles are restricted. Plan ahead and bring a bike lock if you want to see.

Near **Mile 8** you will be at the site of the Minuteman Battle Field and the @poi[Old North Bridge](2381172).  You are restricted to walking on this site. There are benches near the river to have a snack.
Heading out the back way from this park, you will next head to @photo[Downtown Concord](1961767) where many historical events also took place, too many to list here. The @photo[center Island](1961768) in @poi[Monument Square](2381171) is a popular place for cyclist to gather.

Near **Mile 11** is the start of the @point[Battle Road Path](d,17400.97), where the Rebels chased the British back to Boston Harbor.  Along the Battle Path, you will see mile markers denoting the distance from Boston Harbor. The Battle Path is pressed dirt and there are a few bridges where you will need to dismount from your bike.

@poi[**Mile 13**](2381174) has a few stops worthy to get off of your bike. The @photo[Hartwell Properties](1961776) are usually open to the public during normal viewing hours. The view of the @photo[enormous fireplace](1961778) in a framed structure is also a must see.

Near **Mile 16** you will be approaching the bridge across Rt. 128, and nearing the end of your trip.  These back roads will take you back to the bike path, which will take you to your starting location.  Enjoy the day of History.
