**East Burke Vermont**, 30 Mile Fun-Ride

So, here you are... up here in the @photo[North East Kingdom](1902746), Vermont. You have busted your bones hard riding on the trails.  Still have a free time for a little road-ride before or after your next adventure?

Lots of big hills out here in Vermont you want to avoid. If you would like to try a little ride around town, let me suggest this route.  Maybe you have your mountain bike?  Hopefully you have thought ahead, and have a second set of rims with skinnies on them.  A set of 34 – 38 mm road slick tires on a mountain bike is a great way to scoot around on the roads.

**About the ride:**  This is just a fun tour ride for an early morning or afternoon diversion.  Having explored a lot of this area on my bike, there are not many places I would consider “Safe” for a road ride.  The roads are too narrow (no shoulder) and the downhills are too steep to share with Lumber Trucks going 60 MPH. I have been on some of these down-hill road rides.  It is dam scary.  Even in a car, it is difficult to control your speed on the downhills.  My disk brakes worked, I do not think rim brakes would.

So, I have picked out a few routes that avoid these scary places. Here is one.

**Riding the Route:**  Starting in the very quaint town of@poi[ East Burke](2310955), the route heads North to get the Hill Climbing out of the way first. This 9 Mile climb starts off gentle but at Mile 6 the climb really cranks up.  This is worth the climb as you will now have an 11 mile downhill ride.   Once up on the Ridge, you will also have miles of wonderful views of the @photo[Burke Valley](1902748) from both sides of Darling Hill.

At **Mile 14**, you will get one of the best views of @poi[Burke Mountain](2310956), and a few more as you progress from here.

**Mile 15** gets you to the @poi[Mountain View Farm](2310957) which is just up the hill from where you started. The ridgeline and @photo[views](1902712) from both sides of the road are amazing.

**Mile 16** is the @poi[Wildflower Inn](2310958).  There are lots of stuff happening here for cyclist, always worth a stop to visit. The religious symbol of "The @poi[Chapple on the Hill](2355803)" is always a great place to visit, any time of day.  Views from here are truely a @photo[religious experience](1902717).

From here you finish the downhill run heading into Lyndonville.   Once you are on Rt 114, you will be on the flatter roads for the remainder of the ride.

First visit is the @poi[Lyndon Center Collage](2310959) campus, before looping around downtown, and up in the foot hills of the back roads in town.

Once back on Rt 114, you are on a mostly flat return to @photo[East Burke Center](1902734).  Enjoy the ride.
