A great overnighter for bicycle touring or bikepacking, from Austin to Lake Georgetown. If you plan to camp at Tejas CG which is a US Army Corps of Engineers campground, it is easy to reserve your campsite (great idea for weekenders to do this in advance) . Check into their website.
Another option is to park your car at Lakeline, or take the train there and ride North on Parmer / Ronald Reagan Blvd to county road CR258. Turn right and find the Tejas campground near the river. You can fill your water bottles and use outhouses there. The water spigot is near the campground host.
From there you can cross the river and take a single track trail on the North side of Lake Georgetown to the old Walnut Spring campground. It has tables and fire pits, and is generally clean. Take your own toilet paper etc. and plan to go off into the woods to drop and bury your scat. There are NO conveniences until you get to a park.
