Rode with "the boys" from Joe's to Encanto and back, and then went up to Mt. Wilson. There is potable water at Clear Creek as usual, but the usual water at Red Box is not. If the indian's center is open, they had put out a 2 1/2 gallon container with water for people to fill a bottle at no charge. But they were also selling this food dish, which they called Indian Fry Bread (see pics). I had bonked by Clear Creek, so I was happy to down this and 2 Cokes, and was recovered by the time I made it to the Cosmic Cafe, where I just said hello and enjoyed the breeze in the shade for a minute. I met an Observatory employee there who had set up and was staffing a solar telescope to observe the sun, a thing they are doing on the weekends, I believe, until 4PM. This guy rode across the country on a covered recumbent, like a velomobile but on 2 wheels, back in something like 2006. Quite a character. I was able to observe a solar filament, which was not the usual thing for a Sunday ride! (See pic.) I also spoke with the ranger lady that runs the Clear Creek visitor's center; she was renting a house with her husband from the feds at Bear Divide and the house burned down and she lost most of her personal possessions and is living in a hotel, the poor thing. She said she was given 15 minutes warning that they were starting a back fire, and she believes they lost control of it and that is what took their house. No one had come by to warn them of the evacuation order, and she only learned of it when she went online an hour or so before she was told they had to bug out. NOT a happy camper!
