Vermont Ride, Day 5* (see description): Troy to South Glen Falls

Day 4 had us waylaid in beautiful Troy, NY, on account of rain - no miles ridden. Day 5 was also forecast as intermittent rain and thunderstorms, but we took a chance and lucked out - no rain. We appreciated the long stretch of dedicated bike trail that took us out of Troy.

We did have 3 flats - the 2nd flat depleted our tube and tire supply prompting a detour to Malta, NY where we found the only open bike shop in the region.

Nick has been teaching me how to draft, which has reduced my power expenditure some percentage points. It was a bit unnerving on some of the busier road, with stretches of narrow shoulders that demanded sharp eyes for glass and other debris.

    Best format for turn-by-turn directions on modern Garmin Edge Devices

  • TCX Course

    Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.

  • TCX History

    Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.

  • GPX Track (.gpx)

    Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
