Worth seeing by bike or car. Spectacular views of the Canyon starting about two-thirds of the way to the lodge. There are two possible roads to take from the base. I took Kokee Rd., which was what Jason at Kauai Cycles recommended. Supposedly the other road is steeper. Glad I took the recommended route; it was steep enough for me. Definitely a challenging climb. The other recommendation was to leave from the base early in the morning to avoid the heat in the lower section. I got moving a little after 8am, and it was already pretty warm. I finished my two 24 oz water bottles well before the top. There were several other cyclists doing the climb. I got the latest start.
The restaurant at the lodge offers free coffee to anyone who completes the climb by bike.
Make sure your brakes are solid for the return trip to the base.
