This ride started from the St. Mary's Academy in The Dalles. The ride covers most of the 60-mile Cherry of a Ride route. The first few miles goes east through town, then picks up Fifteen Mile Rd to Eight Mile Road. After a couple miles, the climbing loop begins at Emerson Loop Road. There is a 3.1 mile climb right off the bat, but mostly at a 5-7% grade. Today there was little to no wind, which helped a lot. After the long climb, there is a short downhill, followed by gradual climbing. At mile 15, there is a nice downhill, followed by a short climb, then a 1.5 mile descent to Eight Mile Road. Veer left and continue to the Highway 197 junction (mile 19). The original Cherry route crosses the highway and continues another 8 miles up Eight Mile Road. This version travels 4.5 miles, just past Endersby and then returns to the Highway 197 junction.
The ride crosses the highway again and continues on Eight Mile Road for 0.6 miles to the Davis Cut Off Road. The route stays on Eight Mile Road for 5 miles. Most of this is a slight downhill, with several tight curves. Return to town via East 2nd Street. Ride west through town to Webber Rd. (mile 43.6). Turn right and continue 0.5 miles to the Riverfront bike path. The route stays on the bike path to the Discovery Center (mile 48.2). Exit the Discovery Center then turn left onto old Highway 30. Continue west to Chenowith Loop Road. Go right onto Chenowith Loop Road and continue 0.6 miles to W 10th. Turn left and continue 2 miles back to the Academy.
