A morning ride on a weekday that isn't a commute? What is going on!? Is it a sign of the end times? Not exactly.
Yesterday afternoon I was getting pretty stir crazy and aching for some miles. This week just hasn't been cooperating with me after a spectacular month last month. After this weekend, and its 180 miles, I'd planned on commuting Tue, Wed, and Fri. Monday off for some recovery and Thursday off to take the pup into the vet before work.
Unfortunately, mother nature had other plans with the winds gusting to 40+ MPH on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. There's no way I'm riding in those kinds of winds, especially when they're out of the south. 20 MPH head winds while climbing home? No thank you.
Last night I decided to not set an alarm and if I woke up early enough I'd hit the road early. 4:45 a.m. is plenty early enough to get up and start moving. I must admit at first I really didn't want to. So much easier to just stay snuggled in my warm bed and relax until I needed to take the dog. I argued with myself for the next 30 minutes before I finally got up and started getting ready to ride.
Have to admit I think I over dressed. Cracked out the full AmFib tights and jacket. Probably would have been better off with just leg warmers and left the jacket at home. Granted I was plenty toasty warm the entire ride, but was just on the edge of too warm during a couple of the climbs. One saving grace was opening the bottom of the zipper on the jacket to let some air through, it helped a ton.
Overall, the ride was a nice way to get out in the early AM and get some miles in before work. Wish I could have gone longer, but I'll take what I can get at this point. Hopefully I can get a nice chill breakfast commute in tomorrow before group rides this weekend.
