Randall is in town and wanted to meetup with people. I think we had about 20 people on the ride? Pretty decent group with almost half coming up from the Peninsula and a few from the East Bay.
On the last couple of rides, all of them have been the same temperature but they've all felt different. The X factor has been wind chill. Without the wind, it's pretty warm. With the wind, like today, it was cold. Mostly at the beginning of the ride. At least it was sunny and the skies were crystal clear.
We met at Arsicault to get croissants but the line was so long and barely moved in the time we were there. I started at the light north of Clement and by the time we had to go, I had only moved 10'. I at least had some breakfast but I had saved room for buttery goodness. Others hadn't had breakfast.
There were so many people in the Headlands. I much prefer the peace and quiet of having the trails all to myself in the Peninsula. We are really lucky down here.
Unfortunately Natalia fell descending Coastal/Julian. The gravel was pretty deep on the trail for much of it. More so than the last time I rode it so a little sketch.
Old Springs was closed unfortunately so we descended Marincello instead. It seemed pretty loose with a couple of very steep waterbars and so sketch ruts. And unfortunately Stephanie crashed on that descent. She was okay but decided to get an Uber home from there.
I was hungry at that point but we went out to Tennessee Beach first and then to Pizza Hacker.
And rather than go back up Marincello we took the road back and the "swoopy" way back to the bridge.
Once we crossed the bridge there was talk of getting dessert. Originally we were going to go to Lung Fung and Kiss of Matcha (for soft serve). There was some confusion and we just ended up at Kiss of Matcha. Pretty legit soft serve. It was some real matcha (so it was bitter) so getting a match/vanilla swirl was the way to go. The waffle cone could've been better though.
Longer than expected day but a great one getting to meet some friendly new people!
Ran into a lot of people throughout the day - Maya, Mike, Clayton, Liz, Tony, Ben, Olena, Simon, Sophia, Kailen, Sam, RJ, Scott Kelsey, Ringo.
