I didn't sleep well. Kept wanting to take a pee, but resisted going out in the cold. The kid, Ian & the kookaburra's were up around 6am
I got up about 6:30 & made a coffee.
Ian was gone, Laura was still wrapped up in a thick sleeping bag like a crystallise, waiting for the right moment to burst out like a butterfly I expect.
Charlie (the 3 year old) was up too. Coming over to tell me about a line of rocks he made.
Charlie doesn't have a volume control. Laura was up!
More hobbit than butterfly.
She was also planning an end to end trip, & this was her test. Although she was no stranger to long distance riding, telling me she'd ridden across Spain. I don't think she was as 'bike fit' as she'd hoped.
Most of her ride yesterday was up hill through pea gravel. Which means her trip home would be down hill. And mine too.
I packed up & set off, saying I'd expect to see Laura along the way. But as it happens, I didn't see her again. In fact, I only saw 2 people all day.
Despite what Laura said, there were some pretty hefty climbs, as well as some pretty hairy descents.
But over all it wasn't bad going, making me think I would be at the next hut way too early and maybe I should be going further.
Then it started to get cold & overcast. Making it feel more like 6pm than lunch time.
And then the soft gravel climbs arrived, & I decided to stick to the original plan of shorter more comfortable hops between huts.
There were a few short runs along faster gravel roads before diving off once again through some lovely single track.
On one of these sections I spotted something just before I was about to run over it. Brakes full on, anchors & parachutes out! There was a tiger snake half out of the bush & on to the track. I managed to stop about 100mm from its head.
We stared at each other for a couple of seconds before it U turned back into the bush.
The last few kms weren't to hard, but I was feeling tired, & wanted park up before it started raining.
The wungong hut was a pretty nice spot, & I had the place to my self. So far anyway, it's only 2pm! Time for a coffee.
