It was cold and breezy as thirteen loiterers followed John Woodford out of Uxbridge. There was some apprehension about what lay ahead when Stuart and Alan, who had accompanied John on a recce of the ride produced face masks and snorkels.
John led us Up Red Hill to Tatling End then on to Chalfont St Peter for elevenses at The Myrtle Tree where we found John P waiting for us, we were also joined here by John Mac.
Leaving the warmth of the cafe it was onwards and up Gold Hill and onto Beaconsfield via Welders Lane and Seer Green. Passing through Beaconsfield we joined the A40 towards Holtspur, turning off at Broad Lane to Wooburn Common and lunch at The Royal Standard and very good it was too.
After lunch Margaret and Francis stayed on for another coffee before heading home by their own routes. The rest of the party acclimatised ourselves while Ray mended a puncture which took a little while as it was third time lucky for the tube to stay inflated.
We left Wooburn Common by Green Common Lane, up Ship Hill, and along Harehatch Lane to the Beaconsfield Road. Crossing the main road lead us onto Kiln Lane, at that point a farm access drive, which was followed down to Casualty Cottages, Hedgerley. No 8 Casualty Cottage was once a public house called The Shoe Last and then The Potters Arms closing in 1913.
Turning left here the route was up Andrews Hill Lane and on down and up Hedgerley Lane toward Fulmer Drive. We made our way to tea at The Ugly Duckling via St Hubert’s and Fulmer Lanes after which the group dispersed.
Another fine ride, thankfully not as wet as predicted.
