Eight loiterers gathered at Uxbridge on a chilly Sunday morning. Four departed on the long ride while Liliane, Paul, and Phil followed me on a shorter ride. We left Uxbridge by George Street, through North Hillingdon, across Pole Hill Open Space, and on to pick up the cycle path at Yeading.
The path was followed up to the Ruislip Road and across Rectory Park to elevenses at Northala Park.
We cycled through Northala Park, across Kensington Road and through Marnham Fields to Oldfield Lane then on to Perivale Park. Following the path across the park we crossed the Ruislip Road to path leading to High Lane, a traffic free route through the Brent Valley Park, to Hanwell. Next the path through Brent Lodge Park (The Bunny Park) with fine views of Brunel’s Wharncliffe Viaduct. Leaving the park we went under the viaduct and down to cross the Uxbridge Road and around Hanwell Green to Green Lane and lunch at The Fox where we tucked into Sunday roasts.
Leaving The Fox we made our way up the Hanwell Flight of locks on the Grand Union Canal which raises the canal 53ft and under Windmill Lane at Brunel’s Three Bridges where the road, canal and railway cross at the same point. Both are scheduled ancient monuments. The route then took us over the Canal at Norwood Lock and through Norwood Green to Osterley Park. From Osterley we made our way through Heston to Cranford Park and Hayes. It was decided to forgo tea at Stockley Park so we carried on towards Uxbridge dispersing en route. A cold but enjoyable ride.
Uxbridge to Uxbridge 24 miles.
