Brutal wind brought some unseasonable temps and made this a rather slow century. Very low traffic on the way out, and I really enjoyed the remaining bits of gravel beltline. I wasn't able to do the northeast part of the beltline though as it was closed off underneath a bridge near Piedmont Park and I had to go around through a neighborhood. It was mid day by then but still in the thirties and I still had to switch back to my warm gloves. So I wasn't very keen on doing a quick reroute to get back on track by peering at my screen and exposing my hand awhile so I just shortcut the route about 5 miles or so. I ended up adding a few other dead end roads to add mileage and go ahead and knock them out while I was there to make up for it. I was rather tired at the end, but I stubbornly didn't stop anywhere. I didn't even drink 2 liters total, and really wasn't all that dehydrated. But I could have used the pick me up of a soda.
Buffington road home was the busiest part of the ride, but wasn't too bad. I really enjoyed riding around the various little neighborhoods in the city. Every time I ride up there I say I should come back more often.
Sometimes I wonder if I should take the road bike to do a route like this that's high on pavement and city riding, but I am very glad to be on a gravel bike almost all the time because there are just so many holes and uneven road joints. Bikes definitely take a pounding there.

Best format for turn-by-turn directions on modern Garmin Edge Devices
Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.
Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.
Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
