A cold bright morning saw 26 loiterers assemble at Uxbridge to join one of the three rides. I elected to join Brians medium ride to Rickmansworth, must have been the promise of hills.
Ten riders followed Brian out of Uxbridge towards Denham, through the village under Denham Station and on up to Harefield. Passing through the village we missed Stuart and John, Stuart had a puncture and John elected to stay with him and meet us at the elevenses stop.
We then made our way along Northwood Road to Littlebourne Farm Equestrian Centre where they have a cafe with a superb view across the borough towards Heathrow with Grundon Incinerator clearly visible and David M was waiting for us.
With the party reunited and refreshed Phil left for home and Brian led us on through Moor Park past the Grade I listed Moor Park Mansion, built in the Palladian style in 1720 and now used as a golf clubhouse. We continued through the park, ready to dodge flying golf balls, down to Moor Lane which we followed under the Metropolitan Railway to Moor Park Industrial Estate and on to The Edbury Way, a former railway line now a Sustrans cycle path. We followed the path, squeezing past a truck and a digger there to repair the paths surface, past some playing fields before turning off to follow quiet streets and paths to the Watford Road. Crossing the busy road on a crossing into Baldwins Lane and on through quiet roads to Croxley Green and on down Scotts Hill to Rickmansworth and lunch at The Coach and Horses. This was the Loiterers first visit to The Coach and Horses, an interesting an interesting grade Ⅱ listed building C16 building serving good food and beer at reasonable prices. I’m sure that we will be back.
After lunch David left us and Brian led us through the town and on to paths past Batchworth and Bury Lakes and on to Uxbridge Road, down Springwell Lane to join the Canal at Springwell Lock.
Leaving the canal at Copper Mill Lane we travelled between two lakes Margaret headed homeward while we headed up Tilehouse Lane en route for tea at The Crew Room, Denham Aerodrome. After partaking of tea John Mac left us and we returned via Denham Village, dropping John W at his front door, and then the path across Denham Golf Course to Uxbridge.
