Oh boy, what a ride! We originally were going to do WS III (Alexandria and points south) but (ahem) Mark wanted to rest his back, so flat riding was in order and the W&OD won out. Odd in that we had a tail wind outbound and a head wind back; it's usually the other way around. The other "odd" occurrence was my crash at MP 26.2 when I slipped off the high edge of the asphalt and took a lateral fall onto my, as it turned out, right rear side which now has a certificate of attendance in the form of a swath of road rash across the right cheek. Also bruised the right hand right below the thumb. That bruise was not visible but it was sore all the way home and into the evening/night. Fortunately, no broken bones and lots of people stopping and offering help. My last fall was in 2016. I will survive this one . . . and maybe it will keep me humble for another seven years!
