biggest deviation: Skipped the actual secret squirrel passage because the roads were still damp and with many leaves - didn't want to deal with those inclines with poor traction!
New wheelset is H Plus Son TB14 rims, White Industries T11 hubs (omg the rear freehub is so quiet! I've never seen a high-end freehub this quiet), Wheelsmith spokes up front, DT Swiss spokes rear, 28 spokes on both wheels. I wanted this wheelset to look like wheels were back in the '90s when this bike frame was made.
Wheels need some adjusting at first, the rear was kind of a mess on this ride. At first I opened the barrel adjuster to work around a wobble in the rim. Then I had to open the rear brake calipers all the way. Then I was screwing around with trying to tighten the wheel slightly offset so it wouldn't stop against the brake pads. I finally had to pull out the multitool and re-tighten 4 or 5 spokes on the non-drive side - I only did a quick fix and needed to stop another two or three times to re-do it as they came unscrewed.
I'm not worried about it, Tahn will fix it up in just a few minutes. A gouged up a couple of the spoke nipples with the multitool spoke tool so we might replace a couple just so it doesn't look messy right from the start.
When I got a new fork on my road bike in June, this is the route I rode. New wheels and I ride it again. Maybe this is my new gear shake-down route now??
Also trying new tires, Compass Cycles 700x26 Cayuse Pass open-tubular style clinchers. They're nice! I don't know if I really tell much of a difference from the 25c Schwalbe One and Continental Grand Prix 4000's.
