Wamego's 58-mile Cabin Fever Challenge was mostly a challenge for the cool morning temperatures. The ride started heading North on Onaga Road with 33F temps, light breezes and the sun teasing us from behind a thin, broken layer of clouds. It would eventually reach 61F, but that brought South winds at 15 mph gusting to 23 as we headed South down Wheaton Road and back to Wamego. I chose to go with light layers: Canari tights, a silk base layer top and my blue Ibex wool jersey, plus an over-the-ears headband and the FG gloves. That was too light for most of the ride to Onaga, OK from there to Wheaton and just right for the return leg. I am pleased to report that I did fine, finishing in the middle of the pack with no issues. It was a leisurely ride - it was just too cold at the start and too breezy at the finish for speed. I'm happy, and can put my fears about restoring my stamina to rest. I'm back, baby! :-)
