Today brothers Rick, Phil and Brent set out on an epic snow shoe adventure once again within our beautiful Mt Spokane State Park. Today's trek can be summed up as an epic journey. We couldn't have asked for a bluer, sunnier sky than we had. Sunglasses were a must from our initial departure to the time of our return. The snow was quite light as it was very cold. The lower portions of our route had seen numerous snow shoe enthusiasts in days prior but once we hit trail 140 above the CCC Lodge, we were pretty much breaking trail.
Our trek began in the snow mobile parking lot. We then headed up trail 130 to Bald Knob and then on to the CCC Lodge. There we took in some nutrition, had a little hot apple cider and headed back out. We jumped on to trail 140 which took us to the summit. Prior to reaching the summit we were mostly protected from the wind as we worked our way through the timber lined trails. Reaching the summit, although beautiful, was a little different story. With an ambient temperature near 2 degrees F and a wind speed of approximately 20 mph, the windchill was down around -19 degrees F. That's all OK so long as your prepared for it and you keep moving. Any exposed skin would be at risk of frostbite. Anyway, we made our way over to the restroom facility where we commenced our descent down the face back to Bald Knob Campground, then back to the vehicles.
What a memory maker with my two retired, adventurous buddies Phil & Rick. A day of breathtaking views and laughing at each others enthusiasm...priceless!
We topped the day off with some good nachos, beer and hard cider at Bear Creek Lodge. A must stop at the conclusion of any day in MSSP.
