I couldn’t muster a Secret Seven but we had more than the Famous Five as we headed off to Enid Blyton land full of hope for a smashing adventure. Weather a bit mixed as we toiled up Hedgerley Lane to the Beaconsfield services. Fortunately, the sun was out at the Hope & Champion where we took coffee – though lashings of ginger beer would have been more appropriate. Then on in search of Green Hedges our favourite author’s former home. Sadly, the home is now demolished much to the displeasure of the Enid Blyton society and the four acre site contains a cul de sac of newish houses. Were we daunted? Golly gosh no! Forward with gusto to the White Hart for lunch noting that Rawlings Lane was quietly reverting to its former life as a cart track. Then with the literary dexterity that the Loiterers are famous for we switched to the poetic and followed the Milton trail to Three Households. Paradise Lost? Not a bit of it – a ripping day out.
