It's foggy. The sort of day that I really should have committed the route to memory, rather than trying to rely on reading a map through misted up specs. Following me are John MacMillan, John Woodford, Steve Cull, Alan Potter and Sandra Gladwin. We set off through Iver Heath and Littleworth Common to our elevenses stop at Flowerland Bourne End. Then it's a climb from Cookham to Cookham Dean, then a steep descent to Marlow, crossing the river to the George & Dragon. After a sumptuous and very reasonably priced repast we head back to Bourne End via the main road through Little Marlow and Well End. From Cores End, we ascend Kiln Lane. That's when I discover that my bottom gear is not low enough, and that everyone else's is. It's not Stoney Lane steep, but a struggle nevertheless. We eventually join our outward route and at Littleworth Common, we head for Burnham Beeches and our tea stop, Coffee Eats and Treats. It's the end of an era, because the cafe is due to close this Saturday. We are joined by Alan Gladwin and D4 the dog The ladies, Sharon and Jo pose for a photo with us. After wishing them well for the future, we head up Templewood Lane dispersing into little groups as we go. Today was a good one for winter woollies because the temperature barely rose above zero.
