So we awakened this morning with no sign of Boo-boo II having visited during the night. We had breakfast and then packed up our now very wet tent and somewhat damp sleeping bags and headed down the highway towards Echo Bay where we hoped we would be able to rejoin Matt Kadey’s GNBR, road surfaces permitting. A side note here, we stayed at the Garden River Ojibway campground last night. $42.00 for an unserviced site, and we had to search out a picnic table and get help to move it and the lady in the office was quite surly and unhelpful. Probably best to give this one a pass.
The route we rode today was a perfect backroad route. Picturesque with lots of punchy climbs, some challenging ones. The section along Cottage Lake Rd and Diamond Lake Rd was especially challenging, take a look at the analysis to get an idea of it. No roadside bakeries today but we did find a roadside fudge stand! And the fudge was the best I have ever tasted. Not overly sweet and loaded with flavour. You find the coolest things back in the country. We decided to get a motel room tonight and get some of our gear dried out so it can go ahead and storm all it wants tonight. I’m really looking forward to seeing what Matt’s route holds tomorrow.
