Seattle - Harrison Hot Springs - Vancouver Stage 3
Leaving Mt Vernon, we used Freeway Dr and Stewart Rd to get to the bridge on Riverside. Use caution when making a U turn back onto the ramp to the bridge. The route continues through some recreational area along the river and then light industrial before turning west through old Burlington to Burlington Blvd which becomes Old Hwy 99. This mostly has bike lanes or at least wide shoulders. There are some areas of typical urban traffic that need caution. Once out of Burlington, Old Hwy 99 has good shoulders and traffic drops off. Friday Creek Rd is a scenic, lightly used byway that connects back to the highway at Alger. The good shoulders continue until the route hits I-5. We chose to continue on the south side of Lake Samish and cross the bridge to pretty Samish Park for a picnic. Traffic is light around the lake. Leaving the lake, we used Lake Samish Dr to Old Samish Rd. There's a few miles of light climbing before heading down to Chuckanut Dr and heading north into Bellingham. Mostly good shoulders with light traffic. Bellingham itself has good bike infrastructure to get you into town.
