Kathryn and I had gotten into the (bad) habit of only riding together when it was scorching hot out and one or both of us would nearly die. Our first choice, Big Basin, was supposed to be really hot and there’s no water so we quickly abandoned that idea. I suggested Pacifica/HMB because it’s the perfect temperature when it’s hot everywhere else and it’s a pretty place to tootle. It was pretty foggy up on Skyline on the way but at the start it was just overcast. By the time we got to Planet of the Apes, we shed all the layers and probably never really needed them as I never put them back on after that. It was sunny and partly cloudy most of the time but on the way back up the sun really came out and put on a show with the deep blue ocean and all the wildflowers. I actually got to show Kathryn a lot of new trails. We had to cut out some trails at the end and booked it straight to Burger Board for some lunch so she had time to digest before going to dinner later. I did have to give Kathryn a verbal warning that her tootle status would be revoked if there was another infraction of taking a busy road over a perfectly quiet trail. On the way out, I ran over a banana slug that I didn't see until the last moment. And on the way back, tons of little lizards were scurrying across the trail and they always made it until the last guy. I saw him run across and then I heard a crunch as he went under my front tire. Bummed me out but... All-in-all a super lovely, fun, beautiful, day.
