2023 C-Level All Class Ride to Glen Island, New Rochelle
Sunday, August 06, 2023 09:00 AM
NOTE: This is for C12, 13, and 14 speeds. We will split into as many groups as necessary to accommodate all rides with multiple groups per speed if necessary.
This is our annual all class ride, this year to Glen Island in New Rochelle. The club is providing lunch, all we need to do is show up and be social.
This is a no-drop ride and there is no limit on the number of riders.
We will start and end in Van Cortlandt Park. The starting location will be determined the Friday before the ride, based upon the weekend transit work!.
Our route will take us to up the South County trail to Yonkers, where we will make our way over to Bronxville for a quick pitstop. From Bronxville we wind our way through the Westchester communities of Scarsdale and New Rochelle. We pass several house farms/stables and both Iona Prep and Iona College.
After lunch, we ride through the Pelham section of Westchester until we cross back into the Bronx and follow the various greenways to make our way back to the start.
There are two rest stops before we reach lunch at the park and none after.
The rest stops provide an opportunity to switch to a faster or slower ride if our pace doesn't suit you.
Just to remind you, the designated speed for a group is not an average. It is the cruising speed on level roads with no wind or impediments to normal road riding (e.g., rough road gravel etc,). We will go slower uphill or into the wind and somewhat faster downhill or pushed by a tailwind. We will also adapt the pace to keep everyone together.
If you are unsure whether this is the correct pace for you, you can take the the self-test described on the About NYCC Rides page on our web site. There are table with timings for both Central and Prospect Parks. Just ride at your normal pace while doing the test.
Logistics
You should carry at least two bottles of fluid (or a hydration backpack) on the ride.
You must also carry two tubes, and either a pump or a CO2 cartridges. Your bike must be in good working order. We will stop and help with mechanicals and flats within reason. If your mechnical can't be fixed on the road, you will need to either walk or take an Uber to a transit point.

Best format for turn-by-turn directions on modern Garmin Edge Devices
Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.
Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.
Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
Estimated Time shows a prediction of how long it would take you to ride a given route. This number is based on your recent riding history, and represents an estimate of moving time. Each time you upload a new ride, your Estimated Time profile will adjust to reflect your most recent riding. Only rides exceeding 10 miles (16 km) will affect these estimates.
