Howard and I went on a four star adventure ride. First off, Taylor Hill Road in Richmond and Swanzey was pretty much destroyed from the storms in July. Then we spent a while looking for a magically disappearing road--it was on the map, but not on the ground. The first two detours were on the ground, but they looked more like streambeds than roads, so we skipped them. Finally we got back on track and rode a few lovely uneventful miles...until we got to a road in Richmond that suddenly wasn't, with no good way to go around. So we pressed forward, past the No ATVs signs, on something that turned out to be more of a walking trail than a riding trail. After a mile or so of strolling, we got to a big beaver pond. We could see the road continuing on the other side. Howard and I mulled over our options, pooled our 130 years of accumulated wisdom, and then did what any six-year-old boy would do. It turned out the water was pretty deep--I was up to my armpits, and Howard was up to his neck. We made it through, and walked another mile or two until the trail became rideable, and then laughed all the way home.
