This Day 2 section was the hardest one of the 4. Mike Sturgill said it was a new route with about 2,000 more feet of climbing. More scenic small villages and ag fields, to the views were very rewarding, The french people continued their roadside generosity with many stands offering water, light snacks, a chair.
Mike and I both had breakfast at the hotel. IT was a plain omelet with cheese and some noodles. Carbs and protein with no taste. I inquired if she had ketchup and she came out with ketchup and hamburger sauce, like Freddies. That added more flavor.
As we approached Brest, I made the wrong assumption that we were closer than we really were! We were only at mile 92, Landernau. That meant MORE hills, hard hills before we really reached Brest. While the hills were hard, it was very pretty as it was riding through forested with canopy covering the road.
Finally we got to Brest, and all of a sudden Mike asks, do you want to eat here? Seems that he recalled eating at this particular place last time, on the outbound, He said they had a good menu and it would be much faster than anything in Brest. So we did. It was a nice time, at a table in front of the store, facing a parking lot, so away from traffic noise. I had a pizza that was ham and scalloped potatoes! Amazing. See pic.
As Mike went into the restaurant, and I watched the bikes, the owner/manager came out and was very helpful and trying to get me to buy all the local foods. Fun stuff.
Then on to the Brest control and finally to the iconic Brest bridge. We actually rode on the old bridge and could look West to the bay and Atlantic ocean or east to the iconic bridge.
Then the climb up out of Brest. Very pretty yet more climbs. Even on this day, both Mike and I were using our lowest gear settings to climb these hills. He still climbed faster than I did.
Finally returned to Loudeac to the same hotel we did at end of Day1, Les Routiers. That made things convenient as we knew the routine. It was a big hotel in which we left our bikes in a hallway beside the dining area. Then we walked across the dining hall to an exit door to a blacktop area and across to another building, and up a slight ramp and through a number-acces controlled door. Our room was just inside to the left. Nice room, but only 2 outlets. 1 by bed and 1 in bathroom. We shared a queen bed.
Mike was organized enough to have the directions to/from the hotel as part of the mapped RWGPS. That helped navigation!
