This was more of a recovery ride than a training ride. Started from The Discovery Center in The Dalles. Rode Highway 30 through Rowena, up to Rowena Crest and then down into Mosier. Caught the Mark Hatfield bike path to the trailhead near Hood River. The bike path has minimal flat stretches. There is a climb to the Mosier Tunnels, generally around 5%, then a short downhill through the tunnels and then another gradual climb before descending to the trailhead. Around 1400 feet climbing on the "out" portion. The lengthy climb to Rowena Crest is also mainly 5%. The return was much more difficult than usual. NE to E wind persisted, generally around 10 mph with gusts to 20 mph from the start of the bike path (or end on the return) back to The Dalles. Gusts easily to 25 mph at the crest. Opted to add a 7 mile bonus loop riding into the west part of town, then heading to the Port area and catching the bike path back to the Discovery Center.
Typical average speed for this ride is around 17.0 to 17.5 mph. Held back on this one, especially since I did a pretty hard ride yesterday.
