Wanted to see what it was like to ride up a hill, to White Tank Park. Also wanted to exceed my distance 35miles on the V20. Gorgeous morning. Mile 7.8 was the first of a few incidents. Went over bumps turning onto Charles and the mount kit on the back that held my water bottle and light came loose. The water bottle went flying onto the road.
I was able to gather everything bc it wasn't too busy. I did not have any tools this time, so stuffed everything into the bottom bag on the V20. Off I continued.
Mile 12.7 another bump and off flew the tail light that I had re-attached earlier to a second light holder. THIs time I pushed it into the clip a little more and got it to click in tighter. Off I went.
Up the hill to the Tanks and stopped at the Library to show Andy the bike. He had just returned from NY. The uphill climb was nice and steady. I have yet to master how to pedal hard to get myself out of breath. My legs get tired before my lungs. The downhill from library was great.
On to mile 26.7. There the dreaded FRONT tire flat happened. On this V20 the front wheel is like the back wheel with the cassette. Also 2 parts of the frame are held together here by friction with the axle being the linch-pin. So when remove the axle and pull out the wheel, you have to be careful not to separate the frame pieces. I was successful at that.
Getting the axel out, the wheel out and the wheel put back in was harder than I thought. But I eventually got it. To pull the axle out, have to lift the bike up a bit so no weight on the wheel. As for reassembly, just getting it lined up was a little bit of a chore.
The tire itself was a very thin, more like a race tire. Now I hoped my challenges were done. I was getting short of time to exceed my miles. So started home.
Guess what!! Mile 35.6, there on Camelback within sight of the house, the front tire goes flat again! This time I know it was a pinch flat as I just rode over a little rock. Decided to walk the last half-mile to house!
I exceeded my miles! And there the bike stands with a flat front tire. I ordered two 32 mm Conti Gator hard shells to replace the 28mm racing like tires.
The next day ordered a headrest from CruzBike. What a ride!
