This is the first 400k of the ride. My Garmin crashed with 18 miles to go, down in Dana Point, and this is all I have recovered so far.
I was very late getting to the start, and had only had 3 hours of sleep. I checked in with Willie at the start control at about 5:59AM, and was rolling at 6:18AM. I was intent on catching up to Pete and started hard, averaging 20.3 mph for the first 35.6 miles (which included a lot more "downhill" than up ;-)
However, I lost a lot of time transitioning from having prepared for riding at dark to riding in the daylight, particularly the change of the lenses for my glasses, and removing my arm warmers in favor of my arm coolers. Still, it is inexplicable how I was stopped there for 25 minutes.
Much later in the day, that night, actually, the lack of sufficient sleep really slowed me down as I had to get off the bike and walk several times, and I stopped more regularly, in order to stay reasonably alert.
I was really happy to get to the overnight control and take a shower, and bed down for a little sleep.
On Sunday morning, Pete waited for me and we started and rode together. From my SPOT Gen 3 device, apparently:
> I arrived at the overnight control in Borrego Springs at about 1:30AM on Sunday, 1/16.
> The next recorded data point was at 7:58AM, presumably when the Gen3 device sensed that I was on the move again. Based on the apparent distance we made by the next data point at 8:07, it looks like we actually started rolling at approx. 8:02AM.
> We finished at approx. 7:44PM (end of civil twilight was at about 7:49PM.

Estimated Time shows a prediction of how long it would take you to ride a given route. This number is based on your recent riding history, and represents an estimate of moving time. Each time you upload a new ride, your Estimated Time profile will adjust to reflect your most recent riding. Only rides exceeding 10 miles (16 km) will affect these estimates.
