Went slightly out of the way (back to rt66/i40) for last chance to get chicken fried stake in Oklahoma. Backroads were all red, western OK PORT (red dirt). Back on the main road to Black Kettle aka Dead Indian aka Dead Warrior, cops told me I couldn't ride on the road, so I told them I'd pull off. 2 minutes later, I saw the sheriff. I was like 'yeah I know, I'll get off the road' and he was perplexed as to why (as was I), offered to gave me a ride up to the park. On the way, he told me that a local who's always been kinda a jerk and is now senile, was having some kind of episode, driving around naked, shitting in the car.. cops were all driving around trying to catch him (probably why I was told to get off the road). Sheriff made friendly chat about never having met NYers before but hearing they're assholes, seemed like a good guy. Dropped me off at the park, right at campsite w/ firepit by the lake (I'd typically have hid in the woods) and then had to run to town holiday tree lighting. I'd call it a warm welcome to the west.
