Seven. Gorgeous sunny day, cold but I stayed comfortable from the start, some Westerly winds but fairly mild. Jack and I did a trail ride as all the mountain bike locations are closed due to Freeze/Thaw conditions. We parked at Black Partridge Woods just SW of Waterfall Glen, rode a bit on the Centennial Trail along the Des Plaines River then cut up to WG on Bluff Rd off of Lemont Rd. This is a great entrance that is kind of off the beaten path, as it's an authorized use only gated entrance on the back side of Argonne Labs. There's a short woodland ride around at the fence gate that takes you up the closed portion of Bluff Rd. To the right, following the railroad tracks is an excellent gravel road that leads you into the lower perimeter trail around Waterfall Glen. Waterfall Glen is still the prettiest Forest Preserve in the Chicagoland area and it's even better after the trails were widened, graded and resurfaced. The gravel double track along the Southern and part of the Eastern edge are now perfect gravel surfaces and they've replaced several bridges. There are a couple of spots where you have to cross some 'trafficy' roads but even there, the cars are courteous and usually wave to let you pass. We did 2 laps, first one counter clockwise and the second backtracked clockwise. The crushed limestone surface was pretty fine but we did have some thaw in sunny South facing sections after around 10:30 am. so the bikes did have some splash on them (I should have put on my rear fender). There was a surprising amount of climbing as most of it is rolling hills and there were several steep, long sections. We stopped at the Crosstown Pub in Naperville (sister location to Batavia) for lunch and rehydration.
