A much better night's sleep. Very quiet. The only sound I heard through the night (other than the wind in the trees) was some kind of animal that apparently wore boots, it was so heavy footed.
Quick breakfast & coffee, and I said my goodbyes by 8am
The riding was much the same as yesterday. The occasional pea gravel swamp but mostly just beautiful forrest.
About half way there was a section of 1.5km of road, where I was reminded of our 'civilisation'. A trail of emu export cans, fast food junk, & coffee chill cartons at the side of the side of the road.
The calling card of a particular species that becomes blindly patriotic around the 26th of January every year.
But not patriotic enough not to turn their own country into a tip.
Straya c%*#!
I turned off for Collie to stay at the camp site & restock with food.
A 20km diversion. Which means another 20km back out.
I probably would have been better off taking a bigger back pack for food, & skipping Collie all together.
Still, it's nice to have a shower, & rinse out some clothes.
It's also nice to have real grass to pitch a tent!
It's the first time I've used the pegs instead of rocks to hold it down.
Surprisingly I had loads of water left this time.
Perhaps it was because it tasted like frog.
I gave the bladder & bottle a good wash out & refilled it. Mmmm chlorine!
A walk into town for food. Quite a long way as I chrunched my way along the footpaths in SPDs.
The locals didn't disappoint in their obligation to live up to stereotypes. Even the women wore flannel shirts.
Thought I'd top up my tyre pressures.
Front went all good.
But for some reason when I unscrewed the rear, it pulled the valve core out.
The tyre went instantly flat!
I didn't want to use my Co2 in case I needed them on the trail. The last thing I'd need was pumping all day in the dirt.
So I set off with my mini pump.
I got so far & wanted to see how I was going, but each time I unscrewed the tube, the valve core came out.
My multi tool didn't seem to have anything to fit it.
After another attempt I found that part of my chain breaker would grip the valve, & nipped it up.
Success! I got it up to 40psi & my mini pump tube broke off.
I don't want to be without one of those for the next 4 days.
I'll call into crankin cycles in the morning.
Google maps... opens at 8:30 times may vary (Anzac day) shit! What time does it close ... 5:30
Looks at watch.. 5:45 aaaag!
Unless it's open tomorrow (I doubt it) there is nothing on the way to Nannup.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
Just to top things off, I sat down in my tent, & onto my water bottle. Squirting water all over my bedding!
That'll teach me for telling the wife things were going well.
So I put a post out on the Munda Biddi Facebook page, about braking my pump, & nothing being open.
Someone just jumped on, offering to drop one off at the next hut.
Pauline Foster, you're an angel!
40 psi should be ok as long as I take it easy over the rocks & tree roots.
