First big ride with the wheel covers: I have not had speed like that since back when I had my road racing days with my LiteSpeed Ultimate Titanium road bike!
I caught every peloton I spotted off in the distance.
Lots of stretches requiring speeds approaching 25 - 30 mph to catch and peloton paces in the range of 21 - 25 mph.
Beach side sections were 8-11 mph depending on foot traffic and kids on bikes on the trail. So averages will show low. Probably should have stayed on PCH - Pacific Coast Highway to keep averages high.
Much easier to counter their accelerations, then either out sprinted them for key markers like going under PCH at the end of the SART or just before they were going to pull off for the end of their ride.
They all accelerate as they approach known parking areas regional cyclist drive to begin and end their rides as if it’s a race finish line.
Today… I caught and dropped everyone.
Lots of high quality riders out too on carbon aero bikes.
I christened my trike - my Yellow Dragon that Hunts Roadies.
If they are friendly… I integrate my capabilities into their paceline and take pills at the front.
If they are intimidated by a trike making light of their supposed aero cutting edge machines or realize a guy old enough to be their Grandfather just caught and is laying down serious wattage I sit on the back of the last rider in the line and allow those up front to up the tempo until they’ve ejected out the back most of their original peloton as I simply go around the ejectees and latch onto the new last rider in the group. Once the they’ve broken their own ability to hold a high pace I launch a high speed acceleration down the left side and head onwards for the next group out ahead.
So much fun 😊🍇🧬🐉🐇🦶🏽🦵🏾💪🏾🫀🫁⚡️☀️🌴
Perfect day other than a few mechanical hiccups I’ll take care of tomorrow Sunday.
