Pretty good night's sleep, I felt better for it.
The guy next door was a power line contractor. He had a toughbook beeping away constantly. I heard him on the phone about a program, then I heard it come through on the toughbook. Just turn the alarm off damn it!
I tried to see if I could find out who he was so I could bump him off the system.
I didn't eat my tzatziki & crisps last night as I was too full. I couldn't take it with me so I had it for breakfast, nice!
I was in no hurry to leave, knowing today should be relatively easy going. But then the owner knocked on the door to see if she could clean the room, so I got my arse into gear.
I left at 8:00
It wasn't as cold as yesterday, but knowing I'd be pulling layers off 20 minutes into the ride I started in just my cycling top, & fingerless gloves. Bloody freezing.
I soon warmed up on the hill out of town.
I started to feel sick again (& had some diarrhea earlier). But like the day before, it went away.
The going was indeed pretty good. After an hour of riding I started thinking I'd be at Nala Mia by lunch time.
Hmmmm, could I crack on to Nannup?
I could be sitting in the Nannup hotel beer garden instead of camped in a hut.
This seemed to generate a bit more effort from my legs.
Then I came across the deep soft sand section. It seemed to go on for ever.
I didn't realise how much speed it took out of you until I hit some firm ground again. I seemed to take off like I'd engaged an electric motor!
Although the going was good again, there were still some surprise pockets of deep sand. Trying to throw you over the bars like you'd just hit treacle at 20kph
I could frequently see trails in the sand of someone riding semi slicks.
Often accompanied by foot prints!
I wonder if they swore much.
I did indeed get to Nala Mia for lunch.
I was happy to see the water was not only clear, but tasteless too.
The hut is in the middle of Jarrahwood town site. It looked a little like a scene from deliverance.
I stayed for about half an hour, & set off with a big grin for Nannup.
That lasted for about 10kms when the slight down hill gradient of the gravel rail trail disappeared & the arse pain hit.
There was a long run up hill, but being a rail trail, it was very gradual.
It seemed to go on for ever.
Then I hit the summit, which I'd put in my Garmin as a cue. Then there was another bleep "next 7k all down hill" (how very thoughtful of me). You beauty!
Booked in at the hotel, shower, & a very bad beer in the beer garden (I think they switched the lines up. I ordered John squire, but I think I got Carlton draft!).
That's done till spring.
