Fully geared up expecting rain on the ride but it was completely dry.
The new Castelli Pioggia 4 Shoecovers arrived just in time for the ride this morning. While I didn't get to test out their waterproofness, the fit and look of them are the best of any rain bootie I've ever tried.
The went on easily and I was able to zip them up all the way and velcro the top. I've never been able to do that with previous ones. And they weren't too loose or too tight when I did that. There wasn't extra material, bunching, or weird stretching. They just fit.
Highly recommend.
I had a funny thought after today's ride. Bob is the Cato to my Inspector Clouseau. :) On our routes there are certain spots we'll sprint - usually little uphill sections. We don't always but the potential is always there. I'm rarely the one to initiate the sprint. It's almost always Bob. He's gotten better with his sneak attacks but I usually hear or see him coming so if he's going to be successful, he needs to start his attack from way back.
Today, on one of those uphill sprints on Hyacinth Ln. I was in front, in the back of my mind waiting to see if he was going to sprint by me. My eyes were watering from allergies and I started to wipe my eyes when I heard him attack. Sometimes I'll get up to speed before he passes me but like I was saying earlier, he's been starting further back and carrying more speed - the way you're supposed to attack.
I immediately started sprinting and caught him maybe 20' from the top. Looks like I started my sprint 5 houses from the top and caught him with one house to go.
I maxed at 1270W. I haven't gone significantly over 1000W on a sprint in a while. More importantly I held over 1000W for ~9s which I'm not sure if I've ever done for that long before. I might have but I don't remember.
CATO!!! :)
