Really fine day, just a bit too much on the cool side at the end. New chain and cassette. C35s roll so well! Had to detour at Lamprey/84 in Kensington, NH... nice roads for a detour. Rode with some guy on a LiteSpeed with an oddly-shapen left leg. His bibs were ancient, but he was stronger (or not pacing himself for a 102-mile ride). I did draft him for about a mile, which was a nice relief. But his pace was too fast and I knew I would pay later. Yet, this go around, I decided to conserve during the last 25. I still had some moments of serious adductor lock (that I told myself, "mind over matter"), but since I didn't need to hit a port-o-let, I knew I was dehydrated. I knew there were several remaining climbs between 85 and 102 miles left that would be true agony with serious cramps. I finished all of my water and took a break at a convenience store. Ate some of a sea salt KIND bar and pretty comfortably finished. Even with so little climbing (it's funny, RideWithGPS says this ride has +4.4K'), it felt like an epic effort (which Strava confirms). Wish I could figure out why my heart rate is so high to achieve what others do with what appears to be a much lower heart rate... Anyway, overall, a satisfying way to finally get in a century that should properly lay the foundation for the 545 miles I'll be doing next week. BTW no crotch numbness thanks to my LG bibs, but I did get searing chafing where I normally never get it, sigh.
