Henry Coe State Park.
Riding the Jack Burns Trail was fun but his spirit made me finish this one.
I decided to take Domino Pond Trail to Wasno. Something different. That meant that Kelly Lake Trail was the obvious choice to continue. It was Bear Mountain I had my sights into. That is where I went as you can see! Domino Pond Trail was fun and brought memories of a July rain several years ago when I rode it before. From there it was said Kelly Lake Trail. Doing fine but then I came down a really steep hill and hit a large rock with the front wheel! O'er the bars we go. And a hard thump as my chest hit the hard rock encrusted trail. Ow (the meaning ripping the air with worries of 4 to 6 weeks of healing) I cried. I took a chunk out of my arm and broke a nail (not in the candy-assed way. This was bloody bruised broke and painful). Thoughts of going home and whimpering the rest of the day filled my head. I took stock of myself beside my bike, then got up and looked at the shithead rock I hit, took a picture and trundled it down the hill. Sadly it stopped about 8 feet into its wretchingly disappointing journey.
I finished off the trail and went down to the lake shore. There I found a bike fisherman who was packing his gear away. I waited until he noticed me (ever the shy one) and he greeted me as I returned the greet. I told him what happened and he offered me items to clean the arm. We talked a bit more, I filtered water, let him use my filter and then it was decision time.
Not long of thought, I decided to continue on. It was starting to hurt as bruised ribs always. do. I decided to break out of prison...oh. I decided to do the planned ride. Bear Mountain via the ever charismatic Eagle Pines Trail.
Coit to Willow Ridge Road, Hoover Lake Trail (they put all the cat tails from the lakes on the end of the landing strip making it look a bit urban (read crappy). But, that's Coe!
On to Eagle Pines. I rode a lot of it but chickened out at one point and face planted myself. Oooooo 2 crashes in 1 day. Hooray for Roy.
I did pretty well on Bear Mountain, a couple of dabs but ok. I took Bear Mountain Spring Trail and got to Mississippi Lake and filtered some more. I dipped my head in the water. I went up to the bench to eat a bit then I passed out for 20 minutes.
I got up and took Mississippi Lake Trail to County Line and continued on to Pacheco Camp. If I rested I would get rusty. Rib rusty. No good. I checked water at Pacheco Camp. Checked temps. 93 degrees. It really felt good out there.
As I was climbing Coit I wondered if I should just take Grizzly Gulch. I thought I would see when I got there. But along the way I decided Serpentine to Middle Steer was the preferred route.
I cleaned Serpentine. The ride back after Mississippi Lake was painful. Painful. It was real good to crest the top of Serpentine though. I earned Middle Steer as I blasted down it.
Back to my car by 7:30 pm. Good.
Hopefully I feel OK tomorrow.
Roy.
