I gambled that the weekend's rain would dry up and go away by this afternoon, and I lost. It was way too nice of a day not to ride though, so I regret nothing. You must not waste a 68F July day! Thinking that I had little to fear from the little splash-and-dash showers that plagued both yesterday and today, I decided to do a long ride, a variant of our classic metric century. I still don't trust Carnahan Road's relatively new chip seal, so I road north out K-13 to west K-16 into Olsburg. After exploring the park a little, I crossed the lake to Randolph and continued the traditional route along Walnut Creek, Barton and Falcon Roads into Riley, then home on Anderson. It started raining in earnest just after I turned onto Barton Road. Knowing the expected cool temperatures, I wore the Cannondale bibs and the blue SmartWool short-sleeve jersey. Those actually kept my body reasonably warm as long as I kept pedaling. Light, full-fingered gloves would have been welcome. I did see one other roadie riding towards Keats as I rode away from it, so I wan't the only idiot out in the rain. We both laughed and waved as we passed. I felt pretty strong all day, and I'm happy with my time considering the conditions.
