There was a low club turnout on what proved to be the hottest day since dinosaurs ruled the earth. The medium ride that I was covering for Stuart, attracted five followers despite the promise of no nobby lectures. On arriving at Datchet for our morning stop we found some of Hoppo's Friday crowd leaving. We exchanged some banter then settled down for coffee before heading on to the Black Horse at Dedworth with the temperature steadily climbing. Post lunch the Chairman pulled out while we set off for the return leg via Fifield. However the heat required a stop at Ye Old Red Lion at Oakley Green for a top up (though Brian elected to stand outside the pub to guard the bikes in an Alan Potter like manner) A further stop was then called for as we reached the Watermans Arms, then another at the Red Lion at Iver. Swooping down Iver Lane, Jim had a catastrophic derailleur failure. The secretary elected to fetch his car to collect Jim and his sick bike so the Malt Shovel got some Loiterer trade as well. Once Jim had been picked up the day was rounded off with a last cheeky half at the General Elliot.
