Chase the Sun 2021! Epic day, 4.42am start, 7.40pm finish. Pretty much all to plan, total of 1 hour 53 mins stop time, I estimate this as: pee under M25 on 32 miles (3 mins), coke/water fill-up at Esso garage on 68 miles (15 mins), first meet up with Sara on 115 miles (30 mins), Pewsey for White Horse pic (3 mins), second meet up with Sara on 162 miles (25 mins), pee on about 186 miles (2 mins), to plug in Anker charger somewhere in the Mendips (4 mins). All other stop time must be lights, junctions, etc. Missed mileage: a bit at the start, Garmin locating bloody satellite! Also a good half mile in Bagshot when I failed to re-start it. Wind was from the northwest early doors, then became more easterly as day progressed from RG onwards, so this did help. Never strong, and never a problem, on this drab day (no sign of the sun!) Overall, my distance training was good, so today was never a struggle, and the hills are modest compared with other rides. Hill after Hemington on 171 miles did for me, that tips at a good 14%, will have a bash at that next year, and will look out for seagulls on arrival in Burnham!
