Chase the Sun 2022! Another epic day, 4.43am start (2 mile ride from Hogwarts overnight in Minster), 7.44pm finish. Ride time 5 mins slower than last year, still counting as 15.6mph avg, stop time of 1 hour 50 a few mins less so overall elapsed time was just two minutes more than in 2021. Ecstatic with this after feeling my preparation was not enough. First 100 miles is actually 16 mins quicker than last year, no idea how I managed that! Similar stops as last year: pee on 32 miles under M25, Esso garage for water on 68 (remember there's also a garage on about 62 miles just after Hampton Court), Bramley on 101 (this took a good 50 mins as waited for Sara to arrive!!), another pee somewhere after Devizes, Trowbridge on 162. I can’t recall any other stops after Trowbridge, despite the terrible weather that kicked in going through the Mendips. Totally soaked, and very cold, luckily for me the rain stopped before the Gorge descent. I started the day having applied suncream, with no base layer and no arm warmers, the latter I put on at Bramley, at Trowbridge I put on the base layer and changed to the new shoes. Anker charger I plugged in at Bramley (kept in place till Trowbridge). The rain has messed up the profile and elevation stats for the final section. Fastest point this time was the Chatham descent, not Devizes. Overall lucky with the wind, cross wind from the north before and after Pewsey on the exposed sections was a bit awkward, but nowhere did we really have a headwind. Failed to get up Hemington again. Roll on 2023 and the North!
