At 4:00am, I woke to the sound of thunder and lightning, and this is how the ride began a few hours later. I was drenched within minutes, and we rode in a steady rain over an hour. At the foot of our first climb, the rain stopped, and I rode up the steamy surface to Passo di Mortirolo. With the wet roads, we skipped the steepest section because our rear wheels would have slipped on the wet pavement (the gradient is 18% in some spots). However, the route we did take had sections up to 14%, and we didn't have any problems (other than the pain of the climb:). After lunch, the rain came again as we rode towards our 2nd climb of the day: Passo di Gavia. It lasted for about an hour, over half of the climb was dry and the sun came out towards the top. The climb details are below, and the summit is at 8,600 feet. The descent was absolutely gorgeous and really fast.
