Terrible night's sleep before & after. Mostly clear day, very strong head wind Birchip–P'Wollock; dropping away in evening (for return to Hppetoun from P'W—unfair!]. Very cold Hopetoun–Wyperfeld return. Rode in small group for first 160 km, solo 160–300 km, group 300–350 km, with another bloke 350–400 km. Hard to find rhythm when riding with others, but thankful for it into wind. Course is too damn flat: harder than mountains cos little out of saddle required; wind very wearing.
