This time I do the "crash course" ride completely again. A major change on this ride was the route up Powell Butte. The first time I was some tough (for me) trails for a gravel bike and had to carry my bike at one point up some long stairs. This time I entered the true entrance to the park. Which, by the way, is steep--nearly 15% grade at one point--but paved.
The best part of this ride, besides the summit, is the South Trail single track down to the Springwater. This is a really sweet run on a gravel bike.
The next do-over was of course the crash zone where the Springwater crosses Stanley Ave. I not only came to a complete stop here, but got out and looked at what cars saw--there is a sign warning them of a crosswalk. I've also included a photo that shows what a bike may see at this intersection before entering it. No more Idaho stops for me here. However, I was surprised at how many other intersections I did the I-stop on before I even got to Stanley. But these felt safer because I could see much more of the intersection and cars weren't doing a quick turn off a nearby street and encountering the crosswalk 40-feet later.
