Staying in Calgary on our cross-Canada trip. Only 2 hour drive from this wonderful PP. Great weather, so why not go for a hike. We were worried about a lot of traffic on the roads and trails on the Canada Day long weekend but most people seem to have headed for Canmore/Banff/Lake Louise, so very quiet at PLP. Only met a handful of people on the trail; most are paddling on the lakes (canoe, kayak and especially SUP). Found out about this hike thru Alltrails. Still time left in the day, so we went for another short hike, but this was a bit steep for H. This lovely trail is dedicated to the 1982 Canadian Everest Expedition. Laurie Skreslet, a Calgarian was the first Canadian to reach the summit. Mountains here are around 3,000m. No bears (although we bought bear spray at the park office) or other wildlife (although we did see big horn sheep and a grizz on the road) other than birds and lovely wildflowers. Great views onto Mangin Glacier, the southernmost in Alberta and Upper Kananaskis Lake. Still quite a bit of snow visible at low altutudes due to spring thaw 4 weeks later than normal. In fact quite a few trails were closed due to wet conditions.
