Third of 3 days paddling on the Rideau Lakes. Car shuttle from Westport where we are staying in the Station Motel. Ken stern. Not many others out, although a few motor boats with moderate wake towards the end of the paddle. Good tailwind so easy paddling for such a big lake. Lots of wildlife including bald eagle. A lot more cottages than we expected. Did not visit Col. By Island, which has crown land camping, but stopped at a small bit of crown land where the Rideau Trail comes down to the lake (Short bit of ATV trail from Big Rideau Shore North Road. According to the RT guide this is "point 08F, (where) an unmarked grass track R leads 120 m to Red Rock, a Conservation Land of the Rideau Waterway Land Trust (https://www.rwlt.org/RedRock)."). This would be a great sport for a lunch/swim in the summer. Barely a cloud in the sky all day. Finished at the locks with a historic blockhouse and cute swing bridge. Total distance for the 3 days 27.45km. We have finished about half of the big lakes (Upper Rideau, Newboro, Opinicon, and Sand still to go) and are now about 2/3 of the way to Kingston. Glad to get BRL done; it is 32 kilometres (20 mi) long and is 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) wide, with a max depth of 360 feet (110 m) and an area of 4802.9 ha (which is equivalent to 11868 ac or 48 sq km), more than 3x the size of lake Windermere in the UK...
