Canoeing on the Rideau System (Edmonds Lock to Boat Launch Road)

Next short section of the Rideau. Warm sunny fall day with little wind making for an easy paddle. We shuttled from Boat Launch Road to Edmonds Lock and paddled North back to Boat Launch Road. River very quiet; only two other boats. Bit of wildlife: geese, ducks, kingfishers, and a green heron!. Great fall colours. Had a break and a snack and portaged around scenic locks at Kilmarnock. Ice cream afterwards at Sweet Scoops in Smiths Falls, which looks much nicer than when we were last here. Wandered around and scoped out take-out for next time; hopefully we can make it from here to Kilmarnock (Or vice-versa, depending on the wind direction). Also spent a few minutes watching them lift quite large tour boats out of the water into a yard in Smiths Falls for the winter, using a huge crane. Treating each day of paddling as if it is our last of the season. Hopefully we can make it to Poonamalie (another 20km), as that will then be half way.

    Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.

  • TCX History

    Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.

  • GPX Track (.gpx)

    Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
