Camped overnight for the first time, which allowed for early registration, saving a line-up on race day. Would have been nice to be able to stay an extra night after the race. Conservative on all legs, missing out the more distant checkpoints, giving me 12 mins to spare at end.
Trek 1: Along piste cyclable (boring) then round small Lac de la Ferme (rugged, boggy, but scenic).
MTB 1: ATV roads (very challenging, steep hills, loose rocks, and sand - had to walk a few times)
Paddle: Lovely paddle on Lac Ganon, with pretty islands, wooded hills and not too many boats and cottages.
Trek 2: Dusty dirt road with light traffic, then lovely network of trails with two viewpoints, one spectacular clifftop view of small unnamed lake and one good view of Lac Ganon. Have to take H one day...
MTB 2: Hammered it to C26 to get final points. Dirt road but not too hilly and suface well compacted. Returned same way to avoid long loop round to CP27, which looked very hilly and possibly a worse surface.
Used new Mountain Hardwear tent and satellite communicator for the first time. InReach worked well on default settings, except for customized preset messages, which can be sent for free. With 10 min tracking and sending a few messages, used 23% of battery life (77% remaining) in 12 hours, which seems like a lot. Maybe reduce interval to 30 mins next time.
Lessons learned:
- Did not used bike shoes with clips as I did not have trail shoes in next drop bag, so would have had to run in cleats.
- Smaller map case
- Spare sharpie or other waterproof pen next time as it got wet and wouldn't write very well
- Figure out better method of attaching bike tool kit which interferes with dropper seatpost.
- Don't bother with bag for paddling leg. Leave gear with kayak at drop off, so ready to go. Wasted time assembling paddle, stowing safety gear etc.
- Drive kayak all the way to the put-in if poss, to avoid portaging 500m.
- GARMIN: AUTOPAUSE OFF
- PHONE: POWER SAVER OFF (INTERFERES WITH APP)

Estimated Time shows a prediction of how long it would take you to ride a given route. This number is based on your recent riding history, and represents an estimate of moving time. Each time you upload a new ride, your Estimated Time profile will adjust to reflect your most recent riding. Only rides exceeding 10 miles (16 km) will affect these estimates.
